Nuero Diverse Tradition

Neuro Diversity is my jam. I am all about celebrating the variety of life. Who wants to be apart of a world where we all look the same, dress the same, eat the same, react the same, etc? Unfortunately it is common practice to judge those around us as different and then it is just one short step to thinking of those individuals as beneath us.

I am advocating for a celebration of the differences that we all have. This takes an inner work of accepting and loving all human beings on the planet regardless of skin tone, neurological difference, birth place, or religion.

It requires an honoring of the good in each human being. This can be so hard given how difficult the world is right now. I am not saying that all people make the right choice, I am not saying you need to keep people in your life that are toxic for you, and I am not making excuses for those that have committed crimes. What I am saying is that we all start out as pure beings when we start this journey on the earth, and we become hardened by our past experiences, and all we need to do is acknowledge that beyond all of that hardening is a squishy heart that is just searching for love and safety.

Once we can compassionately empathize with the world and the people in it we can see their worth. The reality is that through our differences we are all made stronger.

I can say honestly that this work has been a journey for me. I did not just start off as this enlightened guide, I also had to do the work. When I was hired to work and live in a life sharing community that included a Neuro Diverse population I was intimidated. It was a far stretch from trail crew work, backpacking, or waitressing in a Hells Angels biker bar. I thought I was a “good person”, and I was, but that doesn’t mean all my concepts about others were accurate or kind.

I quickly realized I had a lot to learn, and the bulk of the lessons I was learning was from the Neuro Diverse population. I learned how to be a better people and my guides were the very people I had wrongly assumed I would be teaching. I learned that all abilities have a place in this world when we create space for them. I learned that I could be truly seen, loved, and appreciated by another person. And in loving these others I learned to love myself and celebrate my own differences.

My offering today is a sort of manifesto about creating Neuro Diverse traditions. Working with a Neuro Diverse population is a deep passion of mine. My specialty is in helping people on a Neuro Diverse spectrum to realize their own potential to reach their goals, and to support caregivers and guardians that may also need help in supporting others to reach goals or are experiencing burnout and fatigue. If this is an area where support would be beneficial to you please reach out and you can start your Nuero Diverse tradition today.

  1. We must begin be recognizing the worth and value of each human life.

  2. Then we need to be able to see the best in each individual, their divine light if you will. And let that awareness be the guiding force in your interactions with others.

  3. We need to then value the contribution of each person. Not have an expectation of how a job is to be done, or be tied to a particular time line but allow the space for each individual the freedom to contribute as they are able to.

  4. We must create safe spaces for everyone including an awareness of sensory needs.

  5. We must involve all people in places where decisions are being made, especially about themselves. We must engage people in meaningful conversations at their level and give them the space to advocate for themselves.

  6. We must be open to the idea that we have something to learn from every person on this planet.
