Throat Tradition

Imagine living a life where the things you say, and even how you say them, are authentic and life affirming. Where you can communicate love, and fear with the same level of comfort and assuredness. And where you can fundamentally understand that there is wisdom in knowing what to say and what not to say.

This is the highest potential of the throat chakra. To be able to communicate in a way that is an extension of our highest self, removed from our base ego filled desires.

I will openly admit this is an area that I am working on.

After years of practice and awareness, I am able to catch myself (most of the time) when I have an impulsive response to something. This could be positive or negative response. Oftentimes I commit to sleeping on it, and forming a more articulate and authentic response in the morning.

The fact of the matter is that we often “speak our truth” in a way that is not our truth. We have confused our truth with primitive selfish base responses to things. Think of trolls on the internet. There is nothing authentic there. It's just putting more negativity out into the world, and the truth is we don’t need any more negativity.

In fact when this chakra is not aligned it leads to depression, which is drastically increasing in numbers. If this is something you suffer with please reach out to a therapist, but I would also highly recommend working with the throat chakra to address the underlying issue.

As an exercise for the throat chakra I am prescribing some chanting. What better way to bring healing and balance to this chakra than by using it. I am providing a video for you to work with. In it you will chant “HAM” 108 times. HAM is equivocal to OM which is known much more within the wellness community. While OM is said to be the sound that was made when the universe was created, HAM is of a similar quality while being connected specifically to the 5th chakra. Also the number 108 is said to be a divine number and is also the amount of beads of a mala necklace used for meditating. So if you have your own mala beads I would encourage you to use them. Lastly I would encourage you to find a comfortable seated position before beginning this practice, rooting down through the sitz bones and lengthening the spine by lifting through the crown of the head.

If working with the throat chakra resonates with you on a soul level please reach out so we can start your Mindful Tradition today, and you can find a way to express your authentic and loving self with the world. Because the world needs your authentic self to thrive.
