Sacral Tradition
Last week we discussed the root chakra, the foundation stone of the chakras, or the seven main energy centers of the body. The goal over the next 7 weeks is to work our way up these energy centers that are located up the midline of the body. The movement of these energy centers are dependent on the one before it being open, thus why we have started at the bottom and will be working our way up.
We are taking up this work specifically because when the chakras are out of alignment and not functioning properly it can affect our physical and emotional well being. My hope is that in outlining some basics about these energy centers you can look at your own life and apply some of this to your own practice of wellbeing and self care.
The second chakra is known as the sacral chakra is in the low belly and inner pelvis. It is represented by the color orange and it is associated with your sensuality and creativity. It works in the body with assimilation both of food and ideas. It is also linked to our sense of cultivating home, and interactions with other. When this chakra is functioning properly this brings about a natural sense of joy.
The sacral chakra also processes many emotions, so high levels of stress can have a detrimental impact on this chakra. When chakras become blocked it can manifest in physical ailments in the body, and a sense of turmoil in the soul. If you are having trouble expressing your needs, emotions, and creativity, it is a sign that your sacral chakra is out of alignment and needs to be supported.
If this is something that you feel like is an area you would like to work with more I would recommend attending my weekly yoga class as I will be working with the second chakra in this weeks practice. It is also an area that we could do one-on-one work with in a therapeutic consultation, and really dive into the issues at hand. Either way I am always here to offer you some loving support.
In the meantime here is a mudra to help bring the sacral chakra into alignment so that you can better access the chakras higher up and aid your path of personal development. I will also include a mantra that can be included while working with the mudra.
Vittam Mudra
