ADHD Tradition

Over the past few months, I have seen and heard numerous people talking about and discussing ADHD. When I observe something over and over, I take it as a sign that it is time to respond to the call, and turn my attention to it. So, even though I had a different plan on what our next educational pursuit would be, I decided to put that plan on hold, and take up deep diving into ADHD. Over the next few months, we will be talking about how mindfulness, yoga, and breath work can be an effective treatment for ADHD.

When I was diagnosed with ADHD in high school, I was prescribed medicine. And then another medicine, and then another medicine. Until I was 16 with ulcers and tremors and ulcers to focus on one thing at a time. I finally decided that I was not going to take any medication. Unfortunately, it was another 5 years before I found yoga…

Starting a yoga practice changed my life. It gave me the ability to channel my energy into one task at a time, and made the world much easier to navigate. It took time and I had to practice numerous times a week, but it has proven beneficial every single day since I started the practice 15 years ago.

When I started yoga, there was no science (at least not that I knew of) saying that mindfulness could be a helpful tool for individuals with ADHD. There is now ample research from accredited sources such as the Journal of Attention Disorders or the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institute of Health that say that even just 8 weeks of dedicated yoga can have a positive outcome for those with ADHD.

My goal in presenting this information to you is to give you tools for creating a life that is harmonious, aligned, and in the present moment. We will use the tools of breathwork, yoga, meditation, and exploring environmental factors and triggers. Of course, what I am offering will be vague and non specific to you, and so if this is something that you would like to explore further, we can set up a private session for us to take up this work together. I look forward to expanding on this subject in the weeks that follow. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns along the way, please reach out and we can have a conversation!
